2005 TRENDS NEWS

LESS IS MORE - THE NEW FABRIC DESIGNS
The most popular design for 2005 furnishing fabrics, in fact, no design at all, with faux plains in all their diversity in pole position. Chanel-look weaves like "Coco", available in both light, feminine variations and darker shades, are the very latest trend. Blends, fil-à-fils, stripes and miniature woven designs make an appearance, their trendy tactility often derived from chenille, flame and bouclé thread woven into the cloth.

Conversely, when it comes to patterns, in the literal meaning of the world, stripes and checks are what everyone is talking about because they are represented en masse in almost every collection. In the upholstery segment, almost all are woven, rarely printed, the opposite being the case when it comes to decorative fabrics. Block stripes, pinstripes, relief weave stripes, Vichy check, Madras check, Scottish plaid and bicolour stripes (which combine a bright colour with white) are on show at Chivasso, together with classic, multicoloured and fancy stripes. The permutations are practically limitless. Small, geometric patterns pick up on the stripe-check theme. Even straight lines are distorted with the stripe structure converted to wavy lines.

The high quality of the Jacquard weaves is emphasized, on many fabrics, by lustre effects and historically inspired motifs. At Jab, the decorative inspiration comes from France and the Orient, with heraldic emblems, nostalgic medallions and clearly defined paisley designs also in evidence. Also on show are relatively large, retro-look Jacquard designs intentionally reminiscent of the Pucci designs of the seventies.
