THE NEW WHITES
They're clean and can make a room feel wonderfully spacious - the latest ways with shades of white equal cosy rather than chilly. White is a classic choice for interiors, and can make rooms feel open, spacious, calm and tranquil...just think of starched, brilliant-white sheets and freshly painted walls. It's a look that's effortlessly chic and luxurious. White is a popular colour choice for kitchens and bathrooms because it looks clean and cool. However, getting an all-white scheme to work can be tricky. Pick the wrong hue and the room will feel cold and uninteresting.

Fundamentally ingredients :
- Delicate touches thank to natural materials and accessories. Mix the schemes with neutral materials (light wood, leather, etc.).
- Layered textures for cushions, throws and more. For a modern take on stencilling, use tonal shades of white for the mere whisper of a pattern. An "all-white sheme" gives a room an airy feel, so add a dash of warmth with tongue-and-groove wood panelling. A simple canopy over the bed also bumps up the snug factor, especially when teamed with layers of cream woolly bed throws. Utilise white magnifies patterns and textures to add diversity, put contrasting finishes together (sit matt on gloss and smooth with fluffy).
- Reflective light - maximise every beam of light with mirrored furniture and accessories to add highlights (Venetian-mirrored glass and Crystal). Silver accessories are perfect for reflecting light and adding definition to a pale-coloured room, reflective objects which will also help to add warm light.
- Rustic details (ex. Tuscan or Provence plates or bowls) mixed to table linen with the sparkly glow of cut-glass tea light holders. Table settings go pure and simple with masses of white on white.

While some items are best in brilliant starchy white (hotel-chic of freshly pressed white bedlinen, fluffy towels, linen napkins) there's a danger that it can look clinical. The general rule to stop the room looking too functional is to not be a purest on tone and instead collect different shades from cream, ivory, shell parchment through to taupe and beige. Top off with gloriously textured fabrics and detailed accessories, designed to help people get this sophisticated look right.
